Laser Applications Engineer

The Laser Applications Engineer will develop solutions for laser welding, marking, engraving, thin material cutting and ablation (material processing) with a wide range of materials.  Tasks include usage of motion control systems such as robots, multi axis systems, and video systems.  The individual will assist the sales department in feasibility testing and “fitness for the application” review for a wide range of laser welding, marking, and engraving applications submitted by our clients.  Application development, process development, and customer training (both in-house and on-site) are some of the exciting responsibilities available in the position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Undertake industrial laser application development projects using various laser sources including fiber, pulsed Nd:YAG and others.
  • Process feasibility testing, process optimization and technical support for transitioning process to manufacturing.
  • Fully document and report on these projects both internally and to customers
  • Proactively maintain industry awareness and opportunities for new projects
  • Hands-on experience with industrial laser-based materials processing
  • Knowledge of the industrial materials processing industries / markets
  • Excellent report writing, presentation and customer-interaction ability
  • Needs to be self-driven and highly result oriented, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Travel to customer sites, conferences, other facilities etc. is required


QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, the candidate must have 5+ years of Applications Engineer experience in the laser industry or another high tech industry.  Experience in the laser component equipment market a plus.  Must be able to travel more than 25% of the time including overnight trips. Must be proficient or capable of using computers and various word processing, database, spreadsheet, sales software (Windows) and laser marking operating systems.

EDUCATION
Degree in materials science / engineering or other related field.
Masters degree in laser processing desirable

SOFTWARE
AutoCAD, C++, G-code, CNC programming, Galil, etc. 
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Drivers License and clean MVR record & record.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
