Jewelry Laser Welding: Repairing a Class Ring
Tips for Repairing a Class Ring Using Laser Welding
The 10K Harvard class ring was thin and broken at the bottom of the shank. To repair the ring, the thinning area of the shank was first cut away and then re-shaped and sized on a ring mandrel.
An insert was then tacked in place on both sides and laser "stitched" using the Keyhole Weld and Overlapping Weld techniques. 10K Yellow Gold filler wire was then added. The ring was then cleaned by filing, grinding, rubber wheeling and finally a lap and polish.
Please note the Harvard class ring after laser welding and finishing.
